Fitchburg Seeks National Flag Donations for Heritage Park
The Fitchburg Board of Park Commissioners invites residents to donate national flags for display at Heritage Park. Heritage Park is the home to the Flags of Nations which displays 30 flags representing the cultural and ethnic heritage of the Fitchburg Community. Residents can inquire about Heritage Park online at www.fitchburgma.gov/652/Heritage-Park-Flag-Policy.
Every year the Fitchburg Parks Department hangs an American Flag and 29 donated national flags that represented the various ethnic heritages of our community. Any flags donated in excess of the 29 flags needed for the park will be hung annually in an alphabetical rotational system.
“Heritage Park serves as a symbol of the cultural and ethnic diversity that defines the City of Fitchburg and the American way of life,” said Nate LaRose, Recreation Director. “Throughout the last 250 years Fitchburg has been built by members of many cultures and this diversity defines who we were and who we will become. This is why we are now looking to our residents to help us to build a park that is truly representative of the ethnic heritage of Fitchburg now and into the future.”
Mayor DiNatale said “Fitchburg’s Heritage Park is one of the most prominent ways for the residents in the city to display their National heritage. It serves as a medium for everyone to demonstrate the broad cultural diversity that embodies our city. I am looking forward to seeing the various National flags that will be flying in the future years to come.”
Residents interested in donating a flag can contact the Recreation Department at 978-829-1815 or visit us online at www.fitchburgma.gov/652.
