Welcome to the Fitchburg Airport (FIT)

Serving the North Central Massachusetts Aviation Community. Located between the cities of Fitchburg and Leominster, FIT maintains RUNWAY (14-32) suitable for corporate jet use at 5001 FEET.


The airport has an automated surface weather observation system (ASOS) which reports weather by radio, telephone (978)-343-9121, and internet. FIT is home to many businesses offering a range of aviation services including flight training, scenic flights, charter flights, and aircraft maintenance. 

PUBLIC NOTICE


The Fitchburg Airport Commission is undertaking an Environmental Assessment project to evaluate proposed actions identified in the recently completed Master Plan in accordance with FAA Order 1050-1F, Environmental Impacts: Policies and Procedures. The Environmental Assessment will explore project alternatives, review environmental conditions, and identify potential impacts to environmental resources. Draft and final versions of the Environmental Assessment will be presented during regularly scheduled Airport Commission meetings, which are open to the public, and made available on the Airport’s webpage for review and comment. The Fitchburg Airport Commission encourages the public to attend Commission meetings to learn more about the Environmental Assessment and participate in the process.

FIT 2024-2026 DBE Program

The Airport Commission is posting this “Draft” copy of the Minimum Standards for purpose of providing an opportunity for constructive public input to update the 1973 policies for conducting business on the Fitchburg Municipal Airport.
The Minimum Standards are intended to be the threshold requirements for activity on the airport. 
Additionally these policies will also require approval from the FAA, MassDOT Aeronautics and the City of Fitchburg.
The City, as sponsor and landlord, is committed to open government while striving to consistently meet the community’s expectations by providing excellent service in a positive and timely manner in full view of the public.

Airport Master Plan and Airport Layout Plan

The Fitchburg Airport Commission has completed the Airport Master Plan and Airport Layout Plan for the Fitchburg Municipal Airport. The Master Plan consisted of a review of the adequacy of airport facilities with respect to compliance with FAA design and safety standards as well as the ability to address the needs of the Airport for the 20-year planning period. 

All Master Plan chapters were presented at Airport Commission meetings aired on FATV and were made available on the Airport’s website for public review and comment. The Fitchburg Airport Commission encouraged the public to attend Commission meetings to learn more about the Master Plan and participate in the process.
